Rehearsal Information The first
part of each rehearsal consists of an opening prayer, which is followed by an
engaging series of warm-ups and exercises aimed at imparting healthy vocal
production. Areas
studied include: proper breathing, posture, enunciation, breath control, focus,
sight reading, rhythm work, solfege work (do, re, mi), expression, and vocal
range. The next portion of the
rehearsal focuses on learning 2 and 3-part repertoire. Each rehearsal usually includes a directed
“music listening” element which involves the students in describing a
particular piece of “mystery music”. Students practice identifying
vocal parts, languages, and instrumentation.
Family members are welcome to join the choir as we close each rehearsal
with a choral Benediction or Doxology.
The “Cantate!”
setting requires a high behavior standard throughout the rehearsal with an
understanding that the group consists of a large age range of children and
attention spans that vary. The directors strive to maintain an engaging
and enjoyable learning environment that glorifies God. Each singer is a
precious gift and it is hoped that the music made by the “Cantate!” members
will bless God, the participants and the audiences that we have the
opportunities to sing for. Parents
are invited to observe and even participate in regular rehearsals. Please let
the directors know if you can help with singing a soprano, alto or baritone
part along with the students as they learn their parts. In addition, any students or family
members with instrumental experience are invited to share their gifts with
the choir. |
